Falling for The Village.

Our first big multi-day music festival!IMG_9551
What a beautiful set-up Falls is.
Forest to calm. Birds to wake us up.
And The Village for moments away from the fray.
Which was (of course) where we were.

There was lots of peeking. And patiently waiting.
Under a beautiful sculpture that we became quite attached to as we watched it ebb and flow with the wind.
We were visited by a blue bird each day.
IMG_9544Which was a bit perfect.
We admired sparkly socks, dotted faces and flowers hair rings.
We’ve never seen so many jellies and docs since the 90s.
Watched acrobats, biscuit readings, brass bands and costumes emerge out of a tent.

The first day we had a lot of quiet exits.
But the words written were quite amazing.
The second people wanted to ask and talk about it.
One boy even returned to be shown how to use the typewriter as he wanted to write so much.
IMG_9608In the evening we were a little nervous. But there was no need. We had quite a few hugs, laughs and even helped a (mock) proposal happen.
And on the last day we had all these people being sent to us by their friends.
Which let us know that it had been a success.
A favourite even.

Thank you Village. And Falls. For letting us come play.

Final day in Wodonga.

Beside a cafe.IMG_9209
Under a tree. That seemed like it was crying, as it continued to drip drops of water or diluted sap on us all day.
If anyone can tell us what sort of tree it was, we’d be most appreciative.

A child peeked inside and stated it inside was a piano computer.
A woman came hunting for us. And another. And another.
A deaf lady came came and peered inside, full of wonder.
A teenage girl came and spent a good while writing as she grappled with the typewriter. Her words made us shed a tear.IMG_9220
Her mum listened to the track but didn’t enter. She spoke to those wondering past though, and brought back another young girl to experience it too.
They were lovely to meet. And fed us some sour worms.
A man curious and brave who was warm with tourrette syndrome. He explained he’d had it since he was 14 and how exhausting it was. We can only imagine.

Our time in Wodonga was welcoming. We’ve never had such a variety of people enter the caravan. This felt humbling.
Their notes are now photographed and archived for those to see here.
(remember, the password is the age of the girl in white.)

We hope to take our little caravan to more country towns.

*oddly many more attended but didn’t take off their shoes today….

Little Me Market, Day 3.

IMG_9191Yet another beautiful sunny day.
We sat on the corner of this little market.
Opposite some white lambs who liked to dance.
We heard the piano from yesterday burst into atmospheric tunes.
And watched items being gleefully purchased.
We were quite quiet. It was actually a bit odd, how quiet.

We think it might have been because people wanted to buy things.
IMG_9195Or maybe they didn’t trust were were free?
Or maybe because it was a Sunday people didn’t need “a moment” as much as usual….

Plenty of peeking. Of questions. But few moments of bravery stopping.
Two the bravest where two children. About 10. Their inquisitive eyes peering intently.
A lady with tea who has been following aMoment for years. We liked very much her rose & vanilla gift.
IMG_9199A woman returning to talk about the caravan. Showing us similar caravan stalls she’d seen up North.
A little two yr old with no words ran up to hold our hand and beamed up into our eyes.
A mum wanted her two year old to listen and share the experience with him. And the boy wanted his newly acquired pig balloon to listen and share the experience with it. His little hands later creeping out of the caravan once he was inside…

Day 2, Wodonga.

image_5

Between a library, an arts centre, children making bogong moths & badges we sat.
Next to a piano too. That matched us quite well.

“I will be an astronaut!” announced a little one after her moment.
A woman with flowers in her hair, quiet with a gentle smile on her lips.
An artist. A man with a paper. Who sat and chatted for a while.
IMG_9185Sam. The dog. Who was delightful. And matched our caravan.
A discussion about mistakes with a young girl.
Four little ones jumping in, the youngest of 2yrs climbing determinedly after them.
Two ladies having lunch across the road in a park came over after watching us for a while.
Laughing then becoming silent.
That happened a fair bit today – silence as people took their moment.
A man on a skateboard whizzed around us with questions. He brought us an apple and a water.
Isn’t that lovely?
He brought his sister and mother back too.
And, oddly, a fair few people forgetting to take their shoes, so “away” they were in their moment.

Day 1 in sunny Wodonga.

The caravan is on it’s first proper tour! IMG_9153
We drove it up the Hume to sunny Wondonga, courtesy of The Cube.

Parked on high st.
We started with a little bump. Which is always a little tricky for us.
We forget sometimes that we’re sometimes vulnerable.
Which is good to remember, isn’t it?

Curiousity got the better of many. Peeking, stopping, asking questions.
The brave ones, as always, sitting ready.IMG_9156
A man was unsure for quite a while, but coaxed he did it. And visited us a few times during the day to see how we were going.
The manager of Westpac said “Welcome to Wodonga” and came to the rescue with some tissues for some tears.
Lots of children peeked in. We had time to let some pop in and have a look.
Two young girls did it together. The elder was quite affected I think. As aMoment whispered questions in her ear, she IMG_9149whispered answers back.
A woman needed us today. Sometimes it’s good to offer just a place for a few tears. She was quite special.
A mother returned with her children. And dad decided to have a go too.
Some fellas thought we were selling christmas raffle tickets. We aren’t.
A curious little boy took his two carers in. One had the word “brave” on her t-shirt. Her boy certainly was.
As are all who come inside the caravan…

Our first Spring Outing in a little while…

Last Saturday we had our first outing a little bit.
To the Whitehorse Spring Festival.
Surrounded by candyfloss and children performing – there were many a happy family wondering past.
As per usual, it was only the brave that stopped & had aMoment.
There was a man who had the luxury of being in there for 30 minutes.
And a few tears by parents.
“It brought back a lot of memories”
A couple of teenage girls hugged each other afterwards.
And a policeman was tempted but couldn’t…

It’s lovely to be out again…see you again soon xx aMoment

aMoment with ArtPlay

Kathy Holowko and aMoment were invited to play with ArtPlay.
To be part of their school workshop series: “We are all the same. We are all different.”
We parked the caravan at their schools.
And we took them inside one by one.
We also built mini caravans.
Their own caravan, for their own journeys…

To see them side by side, have a look here.
These kids quite simply, are beautiful.

White Night Wonder.

sign

Little as we were in the scheme of things, White Night was a memorable evening. With lots of moments happening for people all across the city in different ways.
Our heart skipped thinking about it all.
The lights. The foam. The water. The streets. The music. The conversations. The friendships formed. The dancing. The breadth of people. The beginning of something special.

Situated opposite the magnificent electric canvas work on Flinders St, we had  a beautiful view and evening.
Never have we had this many people peek through our windows.
Nor, had people queuing for an hour to experience it. (happily queuing, this wasn’t the grumble grumble sort)

fairy girl

The bells tolled at 7pm and very quickly as we began, a queue formed.
Children galore raced
up, all windows occupied.
Peeking even had its own queue at one point..!
A family of 4.
Two 12 year olds.
A little girl with white wings.
Watching the lights come up. The events grow. The crowds swell.

“I could stay in there all night”.
“We always need to document everything, it’s nice to not do that in there, in a digital way.”kids “So short, but allowed so much to happen.”

Around midnight, the typewriter seemed to be a bit of a challenge as people became tired.
We understood. We were tired too.

A pregnant woman was inside.
Her husband peeked through one of the windows.
They kissed.

“Who is aMoment, where can I find her?””I don’t know what I was expecting, but I didn’t expect that.” Grin.”I don’t think I should have written what I did.”
“Dude. That was awesome.” And a high-five.
“Wow. That’s the place I’d like to die in.”girl sittingTears welling.
Dazed looks. Probably as much from us, as from you.

In the wee hours, things slowed down..though we never stopped.Meanwhile we fell a little in love with Uptown Brown. Thank you Mr Brown.

We think this sentiment was what many were thinking:
“thank you. I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed here. This is what I needed”.

White aMoment. White Night.

We have white notes. DSC_2899
A white bed.
White roof.
White pins.
A white dress, white mask, white shoes.
aMoment likes white.
So. We were pretty excited that White Nights invited us.

Have you seen their program? If you like us, you will find lots of lovely things.
Like the Spheres of Love, Sparkel, Pieces of White, The Beasts from Behind, Still Present, and for our favoured little ones: Songs Stories and Shadows.

We will be tucked away in the Atrium at Fed Square.
We will be  there from 7pm to 7am, so come say hello. And keep us AWAKE!
